What is CBD

Cannabidiol, commonly known as CBD, is a naturally occurring chemical compound found in cannabis plants (ie: marijuana and hemp). It is one of the two primary active ingredients of cannabis, the other being THC (tetrahydrocannabinol).

Unlike THC, pure CBD does not produce the same intoxicating effect, meaning CBD does not create high sensation that people associate with THC.

Did you know that the human body itself produces cannabinoids?

Endocannabinoids are made in our bodies, endocannabinoid system has cannabinoid receptors located in the central and peripheral nervous system. It helps regulate various body functions such as pain perception, mood, sleep and immune system response.

Types of cannabinoids

Cannabinoids can be divided into three general categories based on where they are produced. Endocannabinoids (ECBs) are cannabinoid compounds that are biosynthesized in the human body. Phytocannabinoids (PCBs) and cannabinoids derived from plants, while synthetic cannabinoids (SCs) are produced synthetically through various chemical processes.

Why is CBD good for our skin?

Known for its healing properties, cannabidiol offers serious antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that can be helpful in treating skin conditions such as inflammation, dryness, and free radical damage.

CBD has remarkable antibacterial activity and anti-inflammatory properties that are key to fighting acne and it helps reduce the production of sebum in the skin. In addition, studies show that cannabidiol can also be effective in treating eczema and psoriasis.

SKINCARE BENEFITS OF CHAMOMILE

Chamomile is traditionally used for dermatitis and may be applied topically or ingested as a tea. When applied topically, it has been shown to be beneficial in atopic dermatitis and nonspecific skin irritation. Chamomile contains terpenoids and flavonoids that inhibit cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase as well as regulate T-helper-cell (Th2) activation and histamine release8. Chamomile is a member of the ragweed family and has the potential to induce allergic contact dermatitis, as well as contact urticaria.
